Faculty of Business Management

The Faculty of Business Management is the largest faculty at Majan College with 1645 students.

The Faculty of Business Management offers five undergraduate programmes. These programmes are validated by the University of Bedfordshire (UK) and approved by the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), Oman.

The faculty ensures that these programmes are current and innovative and designed to develop students’ cognitive and transferable skills besides subject knowledge. These programmes are:

Dip HE/BA (Hons) in Business Administration with the following 8 pathways:

  • General Pathway

    This programme aims to develop a student's intellectual ability, executive personality and managerial skills through an appropriate blending of business and general education. The programme provides students with exposure to different areas and functions of business such as Accounting, Finance, Information technology, Marketing, Human resource and Strategy. It also enables students to take a broader perspective and ability to interlink different issues in the process of decision making. Students of this programme will also learn a broad range of managerial capabilities, problem solving and communication skills. Full Course Overview
  • Human Resource Management Pathway

    This programme develops a range of skills and knowledge essential to the effective management of HR functions such as staff planning, job analysis and design, recruitment and training, performance appraisal and assessment of training needs. Students of this programme will also be exposed to modules in accounting and finance, information systems, mathematics and statistics, management and marketing, in addition to English Language courses.   • Marketing Pathway

    Students of this programme learn about the role of markets and marketing in today's society. The programme has a strong emphasis on understanding consumers' wants and needs and also understanding their behaviour. This programme starts with providing the fundamental principles of marketing and progresses to the marketing applications in real life scenarios.It also develops a good understanding of the core concepts underlying the practice of finance and accounting, micro and macro economics, organisational structure, management principles and the development of successful business strategies.   • Accounting Pathway

    The programme provides a blend of a conceptual theoretical framework with practical applications and covers fundamental theoretical knowledge through to more specialised accounting requirements. This degree will develop a wide range of skills such as analytical problem solving, teamwork, research and organising and communicating information besides an understanding of the legal, economic, behavioural and human aspects of business organisations.The graduates of this programme will be capable of pursuing careers as finance managers, financial or management accountants, public accountants and managers.   • Information Systems Pathway

    The BA (Hons) in Business Administration with Information Systems pathway is designed to meet the growing needs of today's business world by merging IT skills with business knowledge.This programme will enable students to apply information technology solutions to business situations, evaluate technical knowledge and confidently take on project – and team – management in IT-related business scenarios. It also develops a good understanding of the business environment including the legal, economic, behavioural and human aspects and the core concepts underlying the practice of finance and accounting, management principles and the development of successful business strategies. It is aimed at developing students' skills of interpreting and communicating complicated technical ideas to those with less technical knowledge and prepares them for leadership roles in Business and IT management such as IT consultant, management consultant, business analyst, project manager, systems analyst, business systems and integration consultant and security and privacy consultant.   • Entrepreneurship Pathway

    The importance of entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprises have been widely accepted as vital for economic growth and employment generation. The role of higher education in the creation of graduate entrepreneurs is significant. Hence there is need for designing deliberate educational strategy to encourage entrepreneurship among students in particular and society in general. Entrepreneurs have a set of personal skills, attributes and behaviour that go beyond the purely commercial. The BA (Hons) in Business Administration with Entrepreneurship pathway develops the skills that are necessary to meet the demands for setting up and managing own businesses. The programme provides the business management core that includes an extensive background in the functional areas of marketing, accounting, and management; an understanding of the business environment to include the legal, economic, behavioural and human aspects; technical skills in information systems, mathematics and quantitative analysis; and the ability to communicate, integrate and synthesise. As a graduate you will be able to integrate the theory and practice which will enable you to communicate effectively, understand the internal and external environments of business, appreciate the legal, ethical, strategic and behavioural contexts of business decisions, and understand the financial and economic dynamics which constitute the context for business activity. You will be also equipped with the skills, knowledge and methods that are needed to launch a new enterprise, take over an existing business, or be a dynamic manager who can make a dramatic difference in the future of a small business.Full Course Overview
  • Tourism and Event Management Pathway

    The BA (Hons) Business Administration with Tourism include modules aimed at providing students with the fundamentals of business management including accountancy, computing and marketing and is augmented by specialist travel and tourism modules. Research methods and skills, market segmentation, strategic planning, advertising, sales, promotions, pricing, and distribution will be explored in depth. Graduates will be prepared for a career in business management with an emphasis on the relevant skills and knowledge pertaining to the tourism sector.Full Course Overview
  • Transport Operations Management Pathway

    Transport Operations Management is a new BA Business Administration pathway designed to equip students with knowledge and skills relevant to the operation of shipping and road transport systems and associated supply chains. Students who follow this pathway will gain a good grounding in logistics and inventory management tasks, preparing them for careers in ports, logistics and land transport management. Diploma and degree programmes covering these areas are unusual in Oman, so students choosing this pathway may well find employment successfully after graduation. Full Course Overview

Dr. Ammar Al-Balushi

Dr. Ammar Al-Balushi is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Business Management. Dr. Ammar holds a PhD degree in Management, with a particular focus on Tourism Development and Strategy, studied at Glasgow Caledonian University, London Branch. He has completed
his Bachelor’s degree at Glasgow Caledonian University and Master’s in International Management at Strathclyde University.
Dr. Ammar has previously worked as a lecturer and a module leader in Management, Marketing and Strategy at Glasgow Caledonian University and the University of Essex from 2013 to 2018. His current research focuses on tourism development, marketing, branding, economic, social and environmental impacts of tourism and management of tourism sites. Dr. Ammar brings an industrial and international perspective to his teaching informed by scholarly research focusing on the GCC and MENA regions. He has also written a book chapter on the management of impacts of tourism.

Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Hussein

Dr. Hussein is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Business Management. Dr. Hussein began his career in industry before entering academia. He holds a doctorate in economics, and has huge experience of industry and academics. His areas of teaching include economics, management, strategic human resource management, employment relations, organisation and behavior, business law and research methods. He teaches on undergraduate, post graduate and ACCA programmes. Dr. Hussein's motto in teaching is "If you cannot explain it simply, you do not understand it enough".

Dr. K. Kishan

Dr. K. Kishan is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Business Management. He has over 10 years of teaching experience in different Universities. He obtained his Ph.D. in 2015 from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU). His thesis focused on Training and Development Strategies in Public Sector Undertakings. He holds an MPhil in Business Management from S.V University, an MBA from St Francis PG College (O.U), and PGDBM from Hyderabad Central University. Teaching has always been his passion and his focus areas are training and development, performance management and compensation management. He was a Corporate Trainer for the prestigious intuitions; Wipro, Infosys, BHEL, Power Grid and Corporation. He has presented several research papers in different national and international conferences and journals.

Dr. Venkoba Rao

Dr. Venkoba holds a Masters in Business Administration with specialization in Human Resources Management and Marketing Management. A commerce graduate from Sri Satya Sai University, Puttaparthy, he did his Ph.D in Management from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India with a Doctoral Fellowship from the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). He did his FDP from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad. He currently teaches Business Strategy & Human Resource Management. His research interests are in Employee Engagement, Human Sigma and Innovation. He has published widely in high quality international journals.

Dr. P. Udhayanan

Dr.Udayanan, who became a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy in September 2019, holds a research degree in the field of Business Administration specializing in Human Resources Development. His interest is in exploring the ‘whys and whats’ of behaviour and the same has been reflected in his publications. His zone of research includes the broad gamut of behavioural perspectives of business, research methods and data analysis. He has more than ten years’ experience that includes teaching and research. He is also a registered research supervisor for doctoral studies. He firmly believes in the philosophy of inculcating a holistic perspective of business learning to his students.

Dr. Orlando W. Eduria

Dr. Orlando's area of specialization is Human Resource Management and Organizational Behavior. He completed his Bachelors and Masters degrees in the Philippines and completed his Doctor of Management in Organizational Planning degree in 2004. His teaching career is coupled with industrial experience in the Philippines from Banking, Service and Food Manufacturing Companies. His field of interest in research includes Consumer Behavior, Corporate Social Responsibility, Human Resource Outsourcing, and Total Quality Management (TQM).

Dr.Arlin Rooshma

Dr. Arlin Rooshma is an Assistant Professor in Business Administration specializing in Human Resource Management. She also holds a Masters in Philosophy specializing in Management Studies. She has 16 years of teaching experience in post-graduate and under-graduate studies. Her corporate experience prior to teaching enables her to integrate the practical aspects of management with the delivery of academic concepts. Being a passionate educationist, she firmly believes that positive teacher- student relationships play a pivotal role in moulding students into competent and ethical professionals. Her research interests include contemporary issues in Human Resource Management and Entrepreneurship Development.

Dr Dina Ghandour

Dr. Dina Ghandour serves as an Assistant Professor in Accounting and Finance, with a PhD in Accounting and a Master's degree in Finance. She boasts a rich teaching background at both undergraduate and graduate levels at the University of Medical Sciences and Technology in Sudan. Additionally, she has imparted knowledge in the Global MBA in Impact Entrepreneurship Program in Milan, Italy, and contributed as an Assessor for the Edexcel BTEC Level 5 HND in Business in the UK. She has undertaken key administrative roles at UMST, such as Coordinator for Postgraduate Studies, Director of External Relations, and Academic Counselor. Beyond this, Dr. Dina is affiliated with various international committees and academic journals. Her prolific academic contributions include several publications in esteemed journals and participation in global conferences. Her research primarily revolves around FinTech, banking, finance, financial accounting, and auditing.

Bushra Al Hasani

Ms Bushra Al Hasani a senior lecturer graduated from Majan with a BA (Hons) in Business Administration (Accounting pathway). She has since completed an MBA in Human Resources. Alongside her education she was employed in the corporate sector for 14 years. Bushra is confident that Majan is an ideal place for encouraging and inculcating the right educational environment among students. She believes that her educational qualifications and corporate experience will help her link knowledge and skills together to enhance the learning experience of students. Her motto is to motivate the youth of Oman to be successful and responsible citizens.

Ali Akbar

Mr. Ali Akbar holds an MBA in Finance from Pakistan. He has held various management positions in the corporate sector, including at Deutsche Bank AG, American Express Bank and Standard Chartered Bank. Mr. Ali Akbar’s last job in the corporate sector was as General Manager Corporate Finance in SaudiPak Leasing Company Limited. He has a wide variety of experience both in the banking industry and as an academic. He joined Majan College in September 2014 and is now a Senior Lecturer. Mr. Ali Akbar is a Certified Management Accountant from IMA.

Faisal Aziz

Mr. Faisal Aziz has almost 7 years of teaching and industry experience in the field of finance, especially investment analysis and portfolio management areas. Mr. Faisal completed his MCS and MBA (Finance) from University of Karachi, Pakistan and he is now enrolled on a MS (Finance) leading to a PhD from Pakistan Air Force Karachi Institute of Economics and Technology. Before joining Majan College he worked as a lecturer in the Department of Banking and Finance, Mohammad Ali Jinnah University Karachi, Pakistan for 6 years. His areas of interest include Corporate Finance, Security Analysis, Portfolio Management, Financial Engineering and Forensic Accounting.

Sharmila Chitnis

Sharmila Chitnis is a lecturer with nearly twenty years of experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students. Her specialisations are in Accounting and Finance. Sharmila's experience is derived both from exposure to higher education as well as industry. Sharmila started her career as an auditor in a reputed audit firm in Mumbai, India. However, a passion for teaching led her to embark on a teaching career which has spanned nearly two decades, numerous well known institutions, local and foreign students and a range of accounting and finance courses. Sharmila holds a Masters in Commerce specialising in Accounting. She also holds Training lead and Development Body, Assessor Award from Royal Society of Arts, UK.

Armstrong Jeyakumar

Armstrong is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Business Management and the Head of Postgraduate Centre. He has been with Majan College since 2003. He teaches Marketing, Strategy and E-Business modules on the undergraduate as well as postgraduate programmes. Prior to joining Majan College, Armstrong taught at ICFAI Business School at Bangalore, India, which is a Top 25 B-School in India. He holds a Postgraduate degree in International Management from Pondicherry Central University and a Bachelors degree in Humanities. Armstrong has worked on consulting and training assignments with major corporations such as Shell-Oman, Dr. Reddy's Labs, Vysya Bank, Union Bank of India, Karnataka Soaps & Detergents etc. He became a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy in 2018.

Mohammed Maaly Hamdan

Mohammed holds a joint degree in Computer Sciences & Statistics, MBA, and is a certified D3 RSA information technology assessor. He started his career in 1987 when he began working as a computer software programmer and analyst after which he moved onto training in teaching. Prior to coming to Oman, Mohammed taught in Sudan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He has taught computer software and data analysis in both Arabic and English language. He joined Majan College in 2000 where he teaches computer software, data analysis and statistics.

Amira Mohammed Bashar

Amira started her career as a Planning & Economic Studies Inspector in 1970 at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, Sudan. During that period she worked as a part-time Instructor. In January 1981, Amira moved to Oman and worked in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Sultanate of Oman as Liaison Officer for Training & International Relations. She joined Majan University College in 1996 as a Business lecturer and translator. Amira also conduct customised workshops and training sessions for government and private company employees. She holds a degree in Economics (Business Administration), a postgraduate Diploma in Public Administration from the University of Khartoum, and a Master in International Human Resource Management from the University of Bedfordshire.

Vamsi Prasad

Vamsi Prasad is a Senior Lecturer of Accounting & Finance in the Faculty of Business Management. She holds a Masters in Commerce and professional certification from the Institute of Cost & Works Accountants. She has 15 years teaching experience and has taught different courses in Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Corporate Accounting, Advanced Accounting, Financial Reporting and International Accounting & Finance. She has taught at different levels including undergraduate, postgraduate and ACCA Programmes. Prior to joining Majan, she taught at the Maldives Business School in the Maldives, University of Asmara in North East Africa and premier colleges in India. She has published research papers in international journals on Accounting and Management topics. Her areas of interest includes financial accounting theory, international accounting, empirical analysis of accounting information and accounting standards.

Sam Sundar

Sam Sundar Chintha, is a Lecturer in Accounting and Finance, Faculty of Business Management. He teaches the Accounting module and Business Law and Taxation on the under-graduate as well as post-graduate programmes. He has over 16 years of teaching experience. Prior to joining Majan College, he taught at the College of Business and Economics, University of Asmara, Eritrea, North East Africa, and also worked for Premier Institutions in India with postgraduate students. He holds a Masters of Commerce, and Master of Business Administration. He has published research papers in National and International journals, on Accounting, Finance and Marketing topics.

Ali Al Bolushi

Ali Younis Al Bolushi is Lecturer in the Faculty of Business Management. Ali holds a bachelor's degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Bahrain and an MBA from the New York Institute of Technology. In addition to his previous work as a lecturer in Gulf College, Ali brings industrial experience through his work as an assistant researcher in UNDP - Bahrain, and as an executive manager in Enjaz Business & Projects Co, Oman. Ali has a Train-the-Trainer, AMIDEAST training certificate, and has received coaching and certification for mentoring from Radiant Sail Management Consulting. This expertise has allowed him to conduct training in various public and private sectors such as the Ministry of Defence and Bank Muscat. His research interests are in the fields of Entrepreneurship, Management, Marketing, and Strategy.

Mohamed Salah Younis

Mohamed Salah Younis is a supply chain and logistics lecturer with 14 years of experience in academia and industry. He holds a Master of Science in International Transport & Logistics from Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AAST). Mohamed is certified in logistics, transportation and distribution (CLTD) from APICS/ASCM (USA) and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) in the UK. He has a passion for mentoring students and has research interests in supply chain, digital transformation, and logistics education. Mohamed has published peer-reviewed articles, received multiple research grants, and won several competitions. Mohamed worked previously for Middle East College and AAST, besides having wide industry experience in shipping and logistics operations.
