Majan University College's Dr. Mohammed Waleed Ashour, Assistant Professor, and Mr. Mohammed Siddique, Senior Lecturer, have won the Best Research Paper Award at the 20th International Conference on Information Technology: New Generations (ITNG-2023). The winning paper, titled "Machine Vision Inspection of Steel Surface Using Combined Global and Local Features" was a collaborative research effort among three researchers, led by Dr. Mohammed Waleed who presented this research virtually at the conference. The third co-author involved in this outstanding achievement is Dr. Mohammed Abdulrazzaq, a senior data scientist at Taylor's University, Malaysia. The winning research paper showcased innovative ideas and concepts in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, and provided a new method for identifying defects on steel surfaces using image analysis and machine learning algorithms, which demonstrated promising results in identifying various types of defects. The award-winning paper, which was well received by the audience and the judges, will be published as a book chapter in the Advances in Intelligent Systems & Computing Series, which has been submitted to several reputable databases and publishers.
