BSc (Hons) in Networking

Programme overview

This degree programme will equip graduates with the necessary knowledge and technical skills needed to design, create, operate and maintain network infrastructure for modern distributed enterprise computer systems. It will also strengthen their awareness of networking security threats and they will be able to implement networking related configurations.

Dr. Ramalingam

Dr D. Ramalingam has been an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Information Technology since 2010. During his career he has achieved various professional certifications such as CCNA; CCNP; COMPTIA A+; COMPTIA Network+; Microsoft Certified Professional; EC-Council CHFI; and EC-Council Cyber Security instructor. He is the College’s Research Focal Point with Oman’s Research Council. His primary research interest is in information security and he has presented his work at various reputable international conferences. In 2019 he completed a postdoctoral research project in association with the University of Bradford, UK. His teaching currently covers areas such as Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, Virtualization, SCADA systems and Advanced Digital Forensics. He is also a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy.

 

Sowmya Baskar

Sowmya Baskar holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Science), MS (Information Technology) and MPhil (Computer Science) from India, and has more than 20 years of teaching experience at the Undergraduate and Postgraduate level, of which 8 years were in India at reputable universities. She became a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in 2020. Her research is in the programming and software engineering areas. Her area of interest includes Web Application Development, Programming, Software Architecture, Operating Systems and Project Management. Apart from teaching, she is in charge of Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL applications) for the Faculty.

Dr. Jacintha Menezes

Dr. Jacintha Menezes is Director of Studies & Assistant Professor at Majan. She has been a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy since 2019. She teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students. She completed her PhD in Computer Science, in the area of Remote Sensing by marking use of Hyperspectral Imaging capabilities. She believes in lifelong learning hence has completed many certifications in the latest technologies. She has served as Journal and Conference reviewer and Session Chair Her primary research interest is centred on Data Analytics and Image Processing in particular Hyperspectral Image Processing. She has presented several articles in various reputed international conferences and Journals. Her recent research in the area of Hyperspectral Imaging has been funded by TRC, Oman.

Albert Tayong

Mr. Albert Alipan Tayong is the Programme Manager of the Faculty of IT. He finished his Mathematics degrees in the Philippines where he graduated as Magna Cum Laude in his BSc. He completed his MBA from the University of Bedfordshire, where he obtained a Distinction award. He is currently taking his doctoral degree focusing on forecasting and optimization Mathematical models. Since joining MUC in 2012 he has already handled Mathematical & Statistical Skills, Basic Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Fundamentals of ICT, IT Applications for Business, Logical & Problem-Solving Skills, and Business Mathematics & Statistics. He had worked as HR & Administration Officer in the Philippines, UAE, and Oman. He has expertise in MS Excel and has knowledge on MS Access Database, and SPSS.

Dr. Sohail Razzaq

Dr. Sohail Razzaq holds a Ph.D. in Communication Systems from Lancaster University, UK, and M.Sc. in Computer and Network Engineering from Sheffield Hallam University, UK. With more than 11 years of professional teaching and research experience at his credit, he joined the Faculty of Information Technology, Majan University College as Assistant Professor in 2022. His teaching and research areas include Communication Systems and Networks as well as Smart and Autonomous Systems. Dr. Sohail has published 29 articles in reputed journals and conference proceedings, mostly published by IEEE, Wiley, Elsevier/ScienceDirect and MDPI. He is actively conducting cutting-edge research in his areas of interest.

Dr.Senthil Ramadoss

Dr. R. Senthil is an Assistant Professor with nearly 20 years of experience in academia and industry. His PhD is in the area of Soft Computing and he serves as a peer reviewer/editorial board member in many international journals. He has chaired and presented papers at international conferences, published in well-known journals, and received substantial grants from Oman's Research Council (TRC) for the purposes of carrying out research projects. Dr Senthil has authored and co-authored books in the fields of industrial automation and holds patents. His current research interests are in the fields of Image Processing, Fault Diagnosis, Plant Automation, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning. He is a member of international societies such as IEEE, ISTE & IEI.

Dr. Manju Jose

Dr. Manju is a result-driven academic with 22 years of insightful experience in teaching, research, and administration. She holds a PhD in Computer Science and a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice in Higher Education from the UK. She has also published various Scopus-indexed journal papers. Dr Manju is currently working on two funded research projects and has a patent to her credit. She is a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and has acquired several industrial certifications. She is an external examiner for evaluating PhD thesis for several universities in India, and has also served as keynote speaker, reviewer, and technical committee member of several international conferences. Her research interests are in the areas of deep learning and artificial intelligence.

Dr. Basel BaniIsmail

Dr. Basel Bani-Ismail holds a PhD in Computer Science from Sultan Qaboos University (2019), awarded through a full scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation in Oman. With over 15 years of experience in higher education across the Gulf region, Dr. Basel served as the Head of the Computer Science and MIS Department at Oman College of Management and Technology from 2019 to 2024. He previously worked as a lecturer at Sultan Qaboos University from 2010 to 2015 and as an instructor at the University of Bahrain from 2006 to 2010.
Dr. Basel is an OQF external reviewer for the OAAAQA. He has served as a reviewer and editorial board member for numerous international journals and conferences. His research interests include Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), information retrieval, data mining, and natural language processing. He has published over 20 research papers in reputable journals and conferences

Zainab Mohamed Al Lawati

Zainab Al Lawati joined as a Lecturer in the Faculty of Information Technology at Majan University College in October 2014. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Computer Networking from Majan College. She teaches Information Technology to Semester I and II students in the Foundation programme. Her area of interest is in Programming, Hardware and Networking.

Thuraia Al Jabri

Thuraia Al Jabri is an IT Senior Lecturer and holds a Master’s degree in Information Management and Security from the University of Bedfordshire. She was the Level 3 coordinator for all College students from 2019 to 2024, as well as teaching and coordinating undergraduate modules in FoIT. Thuraia is a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and is currently pursuing PhD studies in Computer Science and Information Technology at Universiti Malaya in Malaysia, under a MoHERI scholarship and with Majan University College support.

Abeer Al Balushi

Ms. Abeer Al Balushi is an Assistant Lecturer in the Faculty of Information Technology, and joined the College in February 2022. She is an efficient professional with nine years of experience at the Ministry of Defence and a proven knowledge of regulatory compliance, and work methods analysis. She has several international certificates in the network and security field, such as Cisco Certified Network Associate Routing & Switching (CCNA R&S); Cisco Certified Network Associate security (CCNA security); Cisco Certified Network professional (CCNP R&S), and Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH). She holds a Master's degree in Cybersecurity from Modern College of Business and Science, and a Bachelor's degree in networking from the UTAS. She teaches IT1, IT2, and FICT modules. As an IT Lecturer, she aims to produce high quality teaching material that will support student learning, improve student success, and enhance the student learning experience.

Fatma Alajmi

Fatma Al-Ajmi is a passionate educator with a dual role. She both challenges young minds as a lecturer, and empowers individuals to reach their full potential in her capacity as a certified life coach. Having obtained a master’s degree in Statistics from the University of Nottingham, Fatma possesses a strong academic background, expertise and foundation in statistical theory and applications, and data analysis techniques. She is well versed in both classical and modern statistical methods, including hypothesis testing, regression analysis, time series analysis, and multivariate analysis. She also has a comprehensive understanding of statistical software packages such as R, Python, and SPSS, enabling her to teach and guide students in data analysis and interpretation. Ms Fatma believes in the power of data to drive decision-making and stresses the importance of making data accessible and meaningful to diverse stakeholders.
