About the Programme

This degree in English Language focuses on developing highly employable bilingual professionals with marketable skills. The programme ensures a rigorous intellectual education, equipping graduates with skills of critical analysis and intercultural communication. Students will acquire expertise in English language skills, applied linguistics, spoken and written discourse, language acquisition, media studies, English literature, and translation.

Programme Objectives

The general goals of the BA (Hons) English Language have been to produce graduates with excellent communication skills who are able to describe, appreciate and analyse language in the great variety of forms in which it occurs – spoken and written, formal and informal, in different contexts, genres and by different speakers. This involves the development of language proficiency to a high standard along with expertise in communication and linguistics.

Programme Structure

Students are required to pass 8 modules totalling 120 credits in each year (level). In the final year, students must complete a project (dissertation), which accounts for 30 credits (equivalent to a double module). In total, students complete 480 credits (32 modules) with a combination of core and specialisation modules to be eligible for the award of the BA (Hons).
