Dr. Farhad Tayebipour, Assistant Professor and Director of Quality Assurance of the Faculty of English Language Studies at Majan University College, presented a paper at an international conference held in Padua, Italy, on July 25, 26, and 27, 2018. The conference was organized by the Department of Linguistics and Literary Studies, University of Padua, Italy. The main theme of the conference was ‘exploring and assessing pragmatic aspects of L1 and L2 communication: from needs analysis through monitoring to feedback’. Pragmatics is the field of linguistics that examines aspects of language in use, and Dr. Farhad’s paper was on an aspect of second language (L2) pragmatics instruction. More specifically, it was on how to more effectively teach L2 pragmatics to EFL learners. The results of the paper have particular relevance for L2 pragmatics instruction in the EFL context. The conference was very successful as a forum in which linguists and L1 and L2 pragmatics researchers could meet face to face, discuss areas of concern, and exchange ideas and findings on L2 linguistics in general and L2 pragmatics in particular. Approximately one hundred presenters from around the world delivered papers, including four distinguished keynote speakers.
